The way you answer that question determines your eternal destiny. Jesus gave us His
answer in saying,
"I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me”
John 14:6, NKJV.
So what if you are sincere and good but do not follow Christ? Your entry to heaven can’t
be gained by self-reliance and good deeds. This idea comes from prideful thinking. Left
to our own devises, we can never bridge the gap of sin between God and ourselves. We are
impure, unworthy, and in a desolate state.
" . . . according to the law almost all things
are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission."
Heb. 9:22, NKJV.
In His goodness, God gave us a sure way to heaven. That way is Jesus. Only the blood of
Christ can cleanse a person. Jesus is the truth. And the one source for truth is the
Bible. For Christians, this truth is absolute.
If sincerity and good works were enough to satisfy God, we wouldn't need His Word to
correct our sincerely wrong ideas. He wouldn't have sent His Son to do what our good
works cannot.
The truth is important not just because it is true. Truth defines who we are and what we
believe in.
Eternity is a long time to be wrong about the only truth that matters.
